The season came to a close on 9th September and as far as the first team were concerned, a final league position of 9th was viewed as being somewhat disappointing even though we were never in any real danger of being drawn into a battle to avoid relegation. Cricket chairman Danny Glover and captain Max Joice are already giving consideration to a number of new signings to bolster the side’s  standing for 2024, this in part being due to the retirement of long serving opening batsman Dan Wood and opening bowler Craig Glover who had been in his second stint at the club. Both these players will be sorely missed and the club wishes them both well and hopes to see them both frequently in support of their former colleagues.

Mention should be made of the excellent season enjoyed by opening batsman George Booth who scored close to 600 runs in his first season of opening the batting for the first team. At 19 years of age he performed at a level far greater than his years might have expected and we wish him continued success over the coming years. Local lad Josh Hoyle continues to demonstrate great potential with his spin bowling crediting him with 22 wickets for the season.

We were pleased to welcome pace bowler Jack Mulhall at the start of the season and all rounder Tom Sanders towards the end of the season and we feel that both of them will prove to be good assets over the coming seasons. Mention should also be made of opening bowler Danny Glover for his excellent haul of 37 wickets for the season.

Our second eleven finished the season very strongly to move up to 8th position in the Alliance 2 and we had so many outstanding performances by so many of our junior cricketers (too many to name) throughout the entire campaign to give us a great platform for the coming seasons. Our juniors playing senior cricket will be the first to offer their thanks to their senior colleagues for the help and encouragement that they received as they make their mark at a senior level. Thanks also to Shepley’s Jack Dyson for his captaincy role which came his way following a number of injuries sustained by Phil Marsh in the early part of the season.

Mention should also be made of our Sunday team, who did extremely well in finishing fourth in the table. The concept of the Sunday league is very rewarding in helping our juniors to gain great experience as they strive for even greater opportunities at a senior level.
