Shepley v Thongsbridge Twenty20 Competition Group Match Tuesday 16th June 2009 Marsh Lane, Shepley
Shepley won their second consecutive Twenty20 group match to put themselves in pole position for qualifying for the quarter-finals. Visitors Thongsbridge got off to a good start, particularly though impressive young left-hand batsman Joe Sykes (75). 61-1 looked promising, but good control from all the Shepley bowlers slowed the coring and wickets began to fall, leaving Thongsbridge on 148-8 from their twenty overs. Don Bandula Ranjith looked good opening, but after a couple of boundaries lost his wicket, bringing in Nigel Hoyle to join in-form Tom Denton. A stand of 81 in quick time followed before Denton (60) departed, leaving Ash Brothers (14*) and Hoyle (53*), whose fifty came off the final ball, to see Shepley home with 3.5 overs to spare. In the other group match Scholes beat Holmfirth, leaving Shepley joint top of the group with a game in hand.
