Shepley v Skelmanthorpe Sykes Cup Round One Saturday 2nd May 2009 Lidgett Lane, Skelmanthorpe
It was a bad day at the office for Shepley as they crashed out of the Sykes Cup at Skelmanthorpe. Things started well as Romain Grenville dismissed Safraz Ahmed with the first ball of the Skelmanthorpe innings. Grenville then got the wickets of Sykes and Singh, leaving the home side rocking on 38-3. Max Joice came in to play another quality knock against Shepley, but D Bandula Ranjith and SP Singh began to turn the screws, with Singh producing a beauty to send Joice back for 51. A late flurry of boundaries and some poor fielding saw Skelmanthorpe reach 208-8, by no means an unbeatable target. Shepley's reply got off to a poor start and rarely got better. Sam Haigh (8) was caught behind, Tim Rees (0) superbly caught by Max Joice and Romain Grenville (0) comprehensively bowled, leaving Shepley on 12-3. Singh (27) & Ranjith (27) put on an excellent 56 for the fourth wicket, before Singh was unluckily run out backing up. Captain Danny Glover (17) batted sensibly but, as he and Ranjith fell, the tail was mopped up efficiently, leaving Skelmanthorpe convincing winners by 106 runs.
